The position also requires a proven track record of handling business sensitive materials and developing compelling communication products in a variety of formats (print, electronic, multimedia). The Senior Communicator I will have outstanding writing and editing skills and will be responsible for working with a variety of clients within HRO to proactively identify communication needs, develop and implement annual communication plans, and manage budget and quality.

Job Duties
  • Design, write, and edit a variety of communications products for internal staff and potential employees including Human Resources related content such as benefits, compensation, training, retention, and recruitment in a variety of media (print, electronic, multimedia, presentation)
  • Serve as the primary liaison between NREL Corporate Communication and Human Resources to develop communication strategies and plans, implementing effective solutions and products on behalf of NREL Human Resources
  • Coordinate, develop, and manage products and campaigns in support of and that meet the standards of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, U.S. Department of Energy, and other stakeholders
  • Manage schedules, budgets, and resources necessary to complete a variety of communication projects
  • Work with Corporate Communications on a variety of internal communication products as necessary

Required Education and Experience
Relevant Master's Degree and 5 years experience or equivalent relevant education/experience.

Additional Basic Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to interact efficiently and professionally with a variety of NREL staff to produce high-quality communication products often under short deadlines
  • Ability to juggle several projects simultaneously
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite of software

  1. Evaluating electric vehicle and electric vehicle infrastructure codes and standards for completeness and research and data required to fill gaps in these documents.
  2. Working with project developers, code officials, government officials, and other interested parties to provide information on electric vehicle and electric vehicle infrastructure codes and standards needed to implement electric vehicle and infrastructure technologies.
  3. Writing reports, papers, fact sheets, presentations, and NREL technical reports on electric vehicle and electric vehicle infrastructure codes and standards.
  4. Supporting electrical engineering requirements of the chemical sensor test laboratory.
  5. Supporting electrical engineering projects outside of the Safety, Codes and Standards group on an as needed basis.
  6. Support creating and maintaining spreadsheets or databases to track electric vehicle infrastructure activity.
  7. Perform analyses of electric vehicle and electric vehicle infrastructure projects to support electric vehicle and electric vehicle infrastructure codes and standards.
  8. Attend meetings, seminar, conferences, and workshops on codes and standards.
  9. Participate on technical committees developing electric vehicle and electric vehicle infrastructure codes and standards.
  10. Evaluating alternative fuel codes and standards for completeness and research and data required to fill gaps in these documents.

Required Education and Experience
Relevant PhD or equivalent relevant education/experience.

Execute assignments with independence and minimal oversight.

Job Duties
Provide administrative support to management and staff within the Sustainable Fuels and Vehicles Group:
  • Provide administrative support to group projects that focus on implementation of technology in the marketplace by maintaining project files, preparing and developing Word, Excel and PowerPoint files, and maintaining and updating database records.
  • Cross-train and provide backup to senior administrative specialist to learn NREL systems and processes, and provide support to routine administrative functions.
  • Assist with financial tracking and analysis including analyzing monthly cost reports and investigating discrepancies.
  • Assist with subcontract placement by tracking submittals, reviews, invoices, and financial status. 
  • Interface effectively with NREL management and staff, Department of Energy stakeholders, industry and academia contacts, and other key individuals and organizations. 
  • Coordinate and plan on-site and off-site business meetings for both internal and external attendees.
  • Participate as a member of the D&IP Administrative Assistant team to facilitate center operations and administrative needs.
