  Position Purpose:  Responsible for leading the engineering design of the unit operations within the first commercial scale biomass to gasoline plant and following that unit operation(s) into the field with project and engineering support and oversight through construction, commissioning, and startup. Position Expectations: Responsible for mechanical engineering design as a leader of one or more units and a team member of the project and engineering design team; Complete mechanical engineering calculations, equipment data sheets, materials specification and selection; Write specifications for equipment and systems and work with vendors to purchase process equipment Estimate costs and personnel and material needs, preparing proposals and establishing completion dates; Participate in vendor qualification and selection and lead fabrication shop inspections Vendor liaison and oversight duringstart-up and troubleshooting to achieve plant equipment performance targets; Drive project engineering activities required to meet cost and schedules requirements;. Willing to travel as needed up to 50% during FEED and up to 75% during plant startup. Position Accountabilities: Integrate environment, health and safety into mechanical design, maintenance and work practices; Create and review mechanical equipment  drawings, equipment specification sheets and vendor enquiry documents; Review  and approve engineering contractor and vendor mechanical equipment proposals, quotations, standards and design procedures; Create and review materials specification data sheets; Create and review user requirements for equipment and processes; Preparing and delivering information in a concise and professionally written format; Preparing and presenting information to staff in formal and informal settings; Directing and coordinating work among teams and groups; Analyzing and developing solutions to problems; Motivating and managing “subordinates” within the relevant engineering teams; Identify, mobilize and manage appropriate third party services to meet project objectives Participate in hazop, RAM analysis and constructability reviews Oversight for, witnessing and sign-off of vendor equipment shop and field performance testing Qualifications and experience required: Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering Project Management qualification an advantage Project engineering experience Track record of successfully implementing small/medium size projects on time, in budget Overall working experience 10 – 15 years, international working experience an advantage. Minimum seven (7) years of industrial experience, oil & gas industry preferred. Six (6)  or more year’ experience in mechanical design and/or plant maintenance environment Prior experience with vessel design, material selection (low / high temperature), heat exchanger design, rotating equipment design and familiarity with DCS. Strong knowledge of unit operation functionality including the strengths and weaknesses of various unit operations and their limitations; Ability to troubleshoot process unit operations based on experience and broad overall background in mechanical and related engineering sciences. Experience and exposure to equipment development projects will be a strong advantage Business Leadership Work with peers and management to support engineering efforts.  Identify outside technology vendors, evaluate equipment performance,  and make recommendations to management concerning technical feasibility; Interdepartmental communication regarding equipment, schedules, construction and process concerns; Interpersonal effectiveness and teamwork: Interacts well in a team environment (clients, peers, vendors and contractors), good communication at all levels in the organization; open and flexible to changes in priorities and timelines, good listening skills. Make engineering decisions with Business acumen.  Technical Leadership and Technology Expertise: Proficiency in project engineering / management skills, i.e. planning, scheduling, expediting, budgeting and cost control Run software systems to aid in the development and design of systems, processes and equipment; Participate with legal counsel to protect and enrich the intellectual property portfolio of the project.  Identify through careful, thoughtful and thorough research, ways to increase value to the portfolio; Independently apply a wide variety of scientific principles and concepts to potential inventions, products and problems.  Maintain a broad knowledge of state-of-the-art principles and theories.  Personal Attributes: Self-motivated to accomplish the individual and company goals and objectives; Good problem solving and decision making abilities; Possesses a certain degree of creativity and latitude Analytical thinking abilities Attention to detail Good report writing skills Ability to work in a team  People Leadership: Contribute to focused and productive engineering as a member of an interdisciplinary development team including engineers, chemists, technicians and operators; Work with others to develop new equipment and maintenance applications/ variations that complement company’s current process and role in the biofuels industry; Maintain a team environment with other departments; Good communication and public relations skills.
