Position Responsibilities:
Data collection, data interpretation and analysis, and report
writing.
Devise computer models to determine the effect of process changes on large scale
production economics.
Design, construction, installation, and operation of laboratory, bench and/or
pilot process research systems.
Design/Fabrication including the review of engineering calculations and drawings
of prototypes of new systems/equipment or associated parts.
Calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of process components,
instrumentation, and equipment in a timely, efficient manner to ensure safety and
operational upkeep.
Creation and adherence to budgets and timelines for R&D
Available to travel to customer sites and venders and interact positively with
internal and external customers
Plan how to move lab tests into a pilot production phase, then onto large-scale
industrial processing.
Interface with other internal engineering disciplines (Chemical, Mechanical,
Civil/Structural, Electrical, Instrumentation, Automation, Architecture, etc.) to ensure a
coordinated design and complete engineering deliverables.
Interface with management, customers and vendors to define project scope, resolve
technical issues, and assist with preparation of procurement documents.
Size and select equipment, materials, and process systems.
Check vendor drawings to ensure design accuracy and compliance with
specifications.
Construction support activities including responding to submittals and
RFIs.
Design, Execution, and Analysis of both screening and comparative experiments in
conjunction with laboratory personnel.
Experience and Skills:
B.S. in chemical, mechanical, or biochemical engineering - or a closely-related
field is required, preferably with 20+ years of R&D and/or engineering experience;
or
M.S. in engineering with 15+ yrs of R&D and/or engineering experience;
or
Ph.D. in an engineering field with 10+ yrs of R & D and/or engineering
experience
Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills; sound understanding of
engineering and/or chemistry principles and their creative application
on-the-job.
Strong mechanical aptitude; ability to understand and follow machine drawings,
blueprints, and process diagrams.
Computer skills required, with strong proficiency in Microsoft Office software.
Skill with CHEMCAD, AutoCAD, and/or Visio is desirable.
Excellent communication skills; ability to work either independently or in a team
environment with results-oriented efficiency and focus.
Excellent organizational skills with ability to prioritize and work effectively
on multiple tasks.
Process simulation experience with HYSYS, Aspen Plus, CHEMCAD or other software a
plus.
Licensed PE or EIT is a plus.
