My client has been delivering innovative wind energy solutions in a changing landscape for three decades. Their advanced permanent magnet technology is opening a new market for wind power beyond the traditional large wind farm applications that have predominated the recent wave of development.



Summary



They have recently introduced a 2.3MW direct drive permanent magnet wind turbine. The Utility Wind Electrical Systems Engineering department has an opportunity for an experienced electrical engineer to develop improved designs for all aspects of machine wiring and electrical equipment. The position requires a professional that has a demonstrated record of technical accomplishments, along with the ability to effectively communicate with other technical experts and management. I am looking for a self-directed and organized professional that is excited about working on cutting-edge, renewable energy technology.



Responsibilities

- Develop product requirements integrating cross functional input.

- Engineer and specify all conductors, protective devices and power distribution equipment within the turbine.

- Centralize competency in the design of control cabinets

- Manage the electrical integration of components within a MW class wind turbine

- Support and interface with our Mechanical, Controls, Generator Development, and Power Converter Development teams.

- Plan and budget activities and resources to execute system electrical team functions.

- Optimize designs for performance, manufacturability, serviceability, reliability, cost

- Provide drawings, documentation, instructions for manufacturing and field deployment.

- Develop and maintain electrical drafting and design infrastructure, and maintain electrical one line and schematic/connection diagrams.

- Identify relevant electrical standards and provide design and documentation to demonstrate compliance with standards toward certification.

- Report on metrics and performance against budget

- Plan and track quality process, DFMEA, and design validation activities.

- Develop and implement improved internal processes for change management and quality records.



Required Qualifications:

­- Professional Engineer with 10 years relevant experience

- Experience with the electrical design, product launch, and integration of large rotating machines

- Strong experience with 3 phase industrial power systems distribution and protection

- Experienced with medium voltage distribution systems and equipment

- Demonstrated ability to plan and lead team activity

- Experienced with drafting tools and drawing standards

- Experienced with NEC, NESC, UL, IEEE and IEC codes and standards



Preferred Qualifications:

- Understanding of power electronics, analog and digital electronic systems, power distribution, controls, and mechanical systems

- Experience with wind turbine engineering

- Familiarity with systems engineering and power converter design

- Experience with power systems 100 kW or larger

- Experience with distributed generation interconnect (IEEE1547)

- Experience with certification of power electronics (CE, UL1741, etc)

- Experience with power system modeling and coordination

- Experience with product reliability analysis and testing

- Experience with IC Gensets, PV & Wind Technology
