Job Details:

Travel Requirement: Regular travel, both nationally and internationally.

Role Purpose:

Our client is the world's largest independent technical and engineering consultancy for renewable energy. They are the recognised global authority on onshore and offshore wind power and also serve the wave, tidal and solar sectors.

The role will involve working with the PDS and IE teams to provide general civil expertise throughout the development, procurement and construction phases of a wind farm project, including geotechnical, conceptual design, technical due diligence, design review and acting as Lenders and Owners Civil Engineer during the construction phase.

The main purpose of this role is to provide Civil Engineering expertise to the PDS and IE teams

Provide Civil Engineering expertise to the PDS and IE teams including:

Conceptual wind farm design - foundations, access tracks, hard standings, drainage etc

Specification of Civil Balance of Plant

Transport/Access studies

Specifying and managing Site Investigations and topographical

Interpretation of geotechnical reports

Detailed design review including foundation structural design

Developing and drafting detailed design drawings

Acting as Owners Civil Engineer and undertaking site inspections and providing QA of Civil Works during Construction

Technically reviewing civil financial / commercial information

Work with the PDS/IE team to promote and deliver the groups Civil Engineering Services

Undertaking Civil design work in the UK and other markets.

Liaising with the Global Civil Engineer Group on latest technical issues.

Supporting the companies procurement services including providing civil engineering expertise in drafting technical specifications and reviewing tender responses and negotiations.

Performing technical due diligence of civil specifications

Liaising with a wide range of clients from wind farm developers to financial institutions

Liaising with industry suppliers, managing bidding processes and providing critical bid assessment

Work on multiple projects, managing own time to meet deadlines.

Managing the complete project lifecycle

Producing tender proposals (including technical and financial aspects),

Managing the project work to ensure delivery of the scope on time and budget

Closing out the work, ensuring the client is satisfied with the work and has been appropriately invoiced.

Producing written reports and other documentation for delivery to the client

Providing technical advice both directly to clients and to other parts of business

Supporting the continuous improvement of the civil quality documentation

Supervising and mentoring of staff

Any other appropriate duties as directed by line management

Person Specification:

To be successful in this role, and our business, you will need to demonstrate the following qualification, professional expertise and personal attributes:

Technical / Professional Expertise:

On appointment:

An appropriate degree/higher degree in Civil Engineering

Chartered Engineer status

Significant practical commercial experience undertaking civil project engineering

Civil design capability

Geotechnical study specification and review

Appreciation of civil engineering content of a modern windfarm

Familiarity with local (UK) regulations, Eurocodes and procedures/processes

Good understanding of the UK H&S legislation

Good IT skills, and experience using MS Office suite packages and AutoCAD or Microstation


Experience of coordinating geotechnical studies

Capable of managing an integrated team

Experience of coordinating transport/access studies

Experience working within the renewables industry

Health and Safety training

Competency Requirements

Capable of working independently.

Good organisation and time management skills

Adaptability, and able to cope with a wide variety of tasks.

Ability to produce clear written reports and communicate verbally in English.

Ability to produce construction quality drawings

Familiar with working to international standards.

You will be in regular contact (phone/email/meetings) with the Client (Lenders and Owners) and Client's project team as well as construction contractors, stakeholders and other third parties.

You will be in regular contact with the UK IE/PDS manager for reporting, decision making and issue escalation. This may include phone call, emails, team meetings and one-to-one meetings as appropriate.

You will work closely with other PDS, IE, Energy and Electrical engineers in their local offices, and will have contact with the wider civil community.
