Role Purpose:
Our client is the world's largest independent technical and engineering consultancy for
renewable energy. Recognised as the global authority on onshore and offshore wind power
and also serving the wave, tidal and solar sectors.
This role spans two departments. It is based in the Marine department which is responsible
for commercial consultancy and business development within the tidal turbine industry, but
will involve constant interaction with the Design Tools department which is responsible
for the development of the software product.
The successful applicant will be required to lead the further development, sales and
support of the leading commercial simulation tool for tidal turbines: "Tidal
Bladed". You will be involved in a range of activities including:
Promoting the product within the emerging tidal turbine industry. This could be at
conferences, industry events and clients facilities.
Researching, specifying, developing and managing the implementation of new features of the
software package "Tidal Bladed".
Supporting internal and external users of the software, including investigating and
analysing problems reported by users.
Functional testing of new versions.
Development of algorithms connected with dynamic simulation and loads analysis.
Modification of existing, and development of new engineering models.
Reviewing colleagues engineering model development and software coding.
Delivering training courses to external clients on the use of the software.
Person Specification:
To be successful in this role, and the business, you will need to demonstrate the
following qualification, professional expertise and personal attributes:
Technical / Professional Expertise
Essential:
A good degree in engineering, mathematics, physics or a software related degree (at least
2.1 at masters level or relevant post graduate experience).
A good understanding of hydrodynamics.
An excellent understanding of physics and mechanical engineering fundamentals.
Desirable:
Programming experience using FORTRAN and C++.
Tidal turbine or marine renewables experience or training.
PhD level in tidal/rotor hydrodynamics.
Competency Requirements:
Good organisational and planning skills with the ability to work to deadlines.
Flexible approach with the ability to work in a multi-disciplined team under own
initiative.
The ability to work under commercial pressure when providing user support.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
A willingness to travel within Europe and, on occasion, worldwide.
The successful applicant will need to demonstrate a desire to work on the development of a
large software project.
Training specific to tidal turbine engineering will be given as appropriate. Career
development support will be available, including support for obtaining chartered engineer
status. Salaries are highly competitive and will be based upon the skills and experience
of individuals.
