Role Purpose:
Our client is the world's largest independent technical and engineering consultancy for
renewable energy. They are the recognised global authority on onshore and offshore wind
power and also serve the wave, tidal and solar sectors.
In this position you will be required to become an active member of the tidal team
providing consultancy services and furthering the development of engineering tools for
tidal arrays projects.
The role is based in the Marine department which is responsible for commercial consultancy
and business development within the tidal turbine industry.
The successful applicant will be involved in a range of activities including:
Technical support on tidal flow (coastal basin scale) and energy extraction modelling.
Technical consultancy to external clients.
Analysis of site measurements, including the development of QA and interpretation
methods.
Researching, specifying, developing new features of the software packages.
Development of algorithms connected with tidal flow and energy extraction modelling.
Reviewing colleagues technical work.
Delivering training courses to external clients on tidal flow modelling.
Person Specification:
To be successful in this role, and our business, you will need to demonstrate the
following qualification, professional expertise and personal attributes:
Technical / Professional Expertise
Essential:
A good degree in oceanography, engineering or physics related degree (at least 2.1 at
masters level or relevant post graduate experience).
An excellent understanding of hydrodynamics, specifically tidal flow modelling (spatial
and temporal).
A good understanding of physics of energy extraction from tidal flows.
A background in developing numerical models.
Desirable:
Programming experience using Matlab.
Experience running simulations and interfacing with the costal basin code Telemac.
Tidal turbine or marine renewables experience or training.
PhD level in coastal basin modelling/tidal or wake hydrodynamics
Competency Requirements:
Good organisational and planning skills with the ability to work to deadlines.
Flexible approach with the ability to work in a multi-disciplined team under own
initiative.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
A willingness to travel within Europe and, on occasion, worldwide.
The successful applicant will need to demonstrate a desire to work as part of a team
providing technical expertise.
Training specific to tidal turbine engineering will be given as appropriate. Career
development support will be available, including support for obtaining chartered engineer
status. Salaries are highly competitive and will be based upon the skills and experience
of individuals.
