Role Purpose:
Our client is the world's largest independent technical and engineering consultancy for
renewable energy. Recognised as the global authority on onshore and offshore wind power
and also serving the wave, tidal and solar sectors.
We are looking for an experienced and energetic software developer with a passion for
design and development to join the Energy Tools team. The Energy tools team are focused on
the redesign and enhancement of existing desktop analysis tools for the analysis and
visualisation of time series data. These tools are used daily by the engineers in
analysing meteorological and wind turbine data.
The successful applicant will join a growing team of developers engaged in shaping the
future direction of key data analysis applications with the aim of delivering a flexible
set of analysis components used in a broad range of applications.
Our clients energy tools and services currently include:
WindApp
A desktop analysis tool for processing high quality measured meteorological time series
data which is used to assess the wind resource and meteorological conditions for large
scale commercial wind farms. This application is central to the global wind farm energy
assessment consultancy business, and a version is also sold externally as part of the
WindFarmer software product.
Online Data Management:
A software service for clients to manage data captured from ongoing site measurement
campaigns during the assessment of potential sites for wind, wave, tidal and solar energy
devices. Includes server and web based components. Raw measurement data are drawn into the
system and the client provided with graphical and numerical summaries of the data
collected to date.
Forecasting Services:
A large scale software service delivering high-resolution short-term forecasts of wind and
energy production for large scale commercial wind farms. Includes server, desktop and web
components. This service handles both wind turbine data and weather forecasts from a
number of sources to produce wind farm output predictions based on extensive experience of
modelling wind farm production.
The short term goals for this role include taking a key role in bringing together existing
tools on to a single SQL Server based data platform with common components shared between
several applications.
The primary responsibilities of this role are the design, development, code-review,
testing and ongoing maintenance of the required software components. The applicant will
work both with the software team and energy analysts in this role.
The secondary responsibilities include support, documentation, code review and project
administration activities shared with the rest of the team.
Person Specification:
To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate the following qualification,
professional expertise and personal attributes:
Technical / Professional Expertise:
Essential Experience
2:1 Degree or above in Computer Science, Engineering or related discipline
Impeccable C#, C++ skills across a range of successful projects
Can write basic SQL queries for Access and\or SQL Server
Experience of refactoring an application
Essential Development Skills
C#, C++
Excellent high level software design skills
Proven track record of completing work within set deadlines
Desirable Development Skills and Experience
C++/CLI
MFC
Sound basic mathematical background
Microsoft SQL Server 2005/2008 including SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS)

Systems)
