Mechanical Systems Design Engineer – Wind Turbines (based in Heerenveen, The Netherlands), ref 1107-33

Travel Requirement: Regular business travel which will include overnight stays.

Role Purpose
Our client is the world's largest independent technical and engineering consultancy for renewable energy. Recognised as the global authority on onshore and offshore wind power and also serving the wave, tidal and solar sectors.

The Mechanical Engineering team is growing and as a result we have a requirement for a Mechanical Systems Engineer.

The primary elements of this role are system design, component selection and specification of the mechanical systems (drives, transmission, brakes, bearings) for onshore and offshore wind turbines.

Key aspects of the work include:

Design of drives, transmission, brakes and bearings using:
Analytical analysis sheets;
BLADED (standard signal processing software).
Use of system design and specifications to select components.
Report writing
Weekly meetings with manufacturers of wind turbine components and collection of information.
Working independently and as part of an integrated team.

Person Specification:
To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate the following qualification, professional expertise and personal attributes:

Technical / Professional Expertise:

Essential
A Master degree in Engineering with mechanical systems content.
Working knowledge of all types of mechanical systems in areas such as wind turbines, cranes, off-highway vehicles and off shore installations or knowledge of a particular specialist area of mechanical systems for wind turbines.
Use of signal processing, or gear/bearing analysis tools.

Desirable
Previous experience of designing specifications for wind turbines or other large dynamically loaded machines or constructions.

Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with suppliers.
