Role Purpose
Our client is the world's largest independent technical and engineering consultancy for
renewable energy and recognised as the global authority on onshore and offshore wind power
and also serving the wave, tidal and solar sectors.
The offshore wind team is world-leading and provides project management support and
consultancy services to stakeholders at all phases of an offshore wind project. The Head
of Engineering & Consulting will be responsible for leading and growing a team of
project engineers based in the Bristol office.
The role involves management of specialist staff within the company to deliver
multi-disciplinary offshore wind consultancy and projects.
Reporting to the Head of Offshore Wind, the successful applicant will:
Provide management and leadership to the offshore engineering consultancy team in
Bristol.
Approve consultancy deliverables and ensure that QA procedures are implemented.
Prepare and present high quality proposals for offshore wind consultancy work in response
to invitations from industry.
Have commercial and administrative responsibility for consultancy contracts.
Draw upon and coordinate resources from a pool of experts and engineers from the Offshore
Competency Centre within the company as well as the wider group.
Develop long-term client relationships.
Recruit and train experienced and junior staff in order to meet the increasing demand for
services.
Develop the business through identification, development and deployment of new
services.
Maintain and raise the profile of the company within the sector through participation in
industry working groups and delivery of presentations at high profile events.
Person Specification:
To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate the following qualification,
professional expertise and personal attributes:
Technical / Professional Expertise:
Essential:
Strong degree in a mechanical, civil, structural or other relevant engineering subject (or
equivalent in experience).
Chartered engineer status (CEng or equivalent).
Excellent engineering and analytical capabilities.
Experience of preparing or coordinating the preparation of successful proposals for major
consultancy engagements.
Well developed IT skills, including advanced use of MS Office applications.
Desirable:
A track record of developing new services and successfully bringing these to market.
Experience of contributing to industry working groups and related networking activity.
Experience of presenting at major industry events.
A good appreciation of the drivers of project economics including an understanding of how
engineering optimisation may be applied in order to increase returns.
An appreciation of the history, status and future prospects for the offshore wind sector
and in particular project development processes and supply chain issues.
Competency Requirements:
Essential:
Experience of managing a team of engineers through a large-scale project in the
consultancy or offshore sectors.
Experience of building long-term client relationships and the communication skills
required for this.
Excellent communication and leadership skills.
Strong quality assurance skills with excellent attention to detail.
Excellent leadership skills and your expert engineering skills in a industry-leading
organisation and team.
