Role Purpose
Our client is the world's largest independent technical and engineering consultancy for
renewable energy, recognised global authority on onshore and offshore wind power and also
serve the wave, tidal and solar sectors.
An opportunity exists in the Control group for a Control System Applications Engineer.
The team has undertaken projects with a huge range of manufacturers and research
institutes around the world, and it is now widely regarded as the industry's foremost wind
and marine current turbine control system design centre. The Control team supplies control
system design, software, technology transfer and testing services to the turbine
manufacturers during their prototype turbine development phase.
Software development relies predominantly on Microsoft development tools, work item
tracking, and source code control. Eclipse is used for Java projects, as well as various
PLC vendor specific tool chains for embedded software. Reporting and analysis tools
include Microsoft Office and Matlab.
Responsibilities include:
Development and deployment of in-house code and documentation generation tools, targeting
a range of embedded PLC platforms in use across the wind and marine energy sectors.
Developing bespoke ANSI C control system implementation software.
Deploying wind turbine hardware in the loop simulation tools for in-house and client
testing of controller software.
Deployment testing sessions at clients' factories, and wind turbine commissioning
Advising clients on the design and implementation of control system hardware.
Person Specification

Technical / Professional Expertise
This is the perfect opportunity for an individual with an enthusiasm for both the software
and applications aspects of control work. Working in a small, hard working and technical
team, you will have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the
ability to express yourself technically within the team and in front of clients.
The following requirements are also essential for the role:
At least an upper second class degree in engineering, software, maths or physics.
An understanding of formal software design practice.
Industrial experience with C & C++, and preferably a range of other languages.
Analytical capabilities, including statistics, linear systems and frequency domain
analysis.
Ability to demonstrate an understanding of real time and embedded control system design
issues.
Experience with serial communication.
Ability to demonstrate knowledge and application of basic mechanical and electrical
engineering principles.
Competency Requirements
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
