Description:

Specifically, their Solar team produces world-class products and technology and is a
global leader in solar cell production.
Function:
The Senior Manager Product Engineering Commercial & Utility (SE) will focus on the
development of system solutions for solar applications. For each segment they serve, the
SE will be the leader of component development (e.g., modules and racking) from a systems
perspective (optimum designs will consider all aspects of complete systems – parts
costs, transportation, installation, system performance, O&M, decommissioning, etc).
Products will be managed and developed using their standards to meet and exceed market and
customer requirements. Development will be in partnership with their manufacturing and
development teams in Memphis, TN and Japan.
Responsibilities:
The responsibilities and authorities stated below are subject to established policies.
- Identify customer and market requirements and perform market research to identify
functional requirements and capture the information in a Market Requirements Document
(MRD)
- Develop Product Requirements (PRD) document by translating customer and market
requirements into product specifications
- Work directly with customers and through the sales team to collect the voice of the
customer to identify key system requirements and customer needs
- Conduct brainstorming activities to conceptualize new products
- Benchmark analysis of existing competitor product offerings in the market for comparison
against existing and new products
- Develop financial modeling of new and existing products
- Perform feature/benefit analysis on new products and analyze/test new products to meet
or exceed codes and standards for the Americas
- Perform product development and collateral to support sales such as data sheets,
installation manuals, and specification review
- Communicate throughout the international engineering team to develop a firm
understanding of the market and product requirements in the Americas work within the
international engineering group to refine and prioritize features and specifications for
the American market
- Develop and communicate the value proposition across the business units and to customers
- Schedule, lead and attend meetings
- Create product development schedules using stage gate process
- Create product roadmaps for internal and external use
- Work directly with customers to provide technical assistance
- Prepare reports and presentations to communicate product development efforts
- Prioritize tasks within a dynamic environment
Relationships:
- Reports to the Associate Director Product Engineering
- Direct engagement with all company functions and personnel, especially Senior Manager
Marketing & Communications, Senior Manager Sales, Senior Director Engineering, the
Memphis factory and Engineering team members in Japan
- Cultivates relationships with customers, serving as the central technical resource for
products and system solutions throughout the product life cycle
Position Specifications:
- Bachelors of Science in Mechanical, Structural, Materials or equivalent; Masters
preferred
- 5+ years of experience with solar PV projects, installation and equipment
- 5+ years of experience with product development and product management
- Must have a strong ability to communicate clearly using visual tools
- Self-motivated with ability to take on leading role in product development
- Strong engineering skills across a wide scope of fields: electrical, mechanical,
structural, construction, civil
- Experience with single axis trackers, fix tilt ground mounts, commercial low slope
mounts or residential systems
- Experience with codes and standards related to the solar industry
- Strong computer skills: MS Word, Excel and Outlook
- High level of organization skill
- Strong product design skills with emphasis on system design
- 3D Modeling, preference for SolidWorks and AutoCAD experience
- Outstanding communication skills with excellent writing skills
