Where are the Wind Energy Jobs?
In an amazingly short period of time, the US has emerged as the largest producer of Wind in the World! Wind now represents 42% of all new power produced in the US and the rate of more wind farms coming online is growing at an astounding pace.
In an effort to help give you an idea of where the jobs in Wind Energy will be, I have included an article from the American Wind Energy Association that gives a state-by-state breakdown of the number of installed megawatts vs. projects under construction. The results of this study show that there are clear leaders in the wind industry. There are certain states with a heavy concentration of existing wind energy production projects and, therefore, wind energy jobs. Alternatively, there are many states lagging far behind and some states that don’t have any wind energy jobs or projects at all. The results are somewhat surprising.
As a summary, the top three states in Wind Energy Production as measured in megawatts (MWs) are:
- Texas - 7116 MWs
- Iowa - 2790 MWs
- California - 2517 MWs
